Application Award Process Still Open for SIUE Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Luncheon
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will host its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Luncheon. The Committee is still seeking applications for the award categories.
Each year, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Luncheon Committee holds contests in the areas of:
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Award
- Essay, Poetry and Visual Arts, High School
- Humanitarian, SIUE Faculty and Staff Award
- Humanitarian, Community Award

The SIUE student who wins the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Award will receive free tuition for one semester and a commemorative plaque. The three recipients of the high school contests will each win $100 and a commemorative plaque. Humanitarian award recipients, both at the University and in the community, will each receive a commemorative plaque.
The winners will be announced at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 at SIUE’s Morris University Center Meridian Ballroom. This year’s theme is “Voices of the Unheard,” reflecting Dr. King’s focus on social justice and equality efforts for individuals and groups who are continuously misrepresented or unrepresented through lack of inclusion and awareness.
